1,800 migrants rescued off Libya

Migrants wait to be rescued by members of Proactiva Open Arms NGO in the Mediterranean sea, some 12 nautical miles north of Libya, on October 4, 2016At least 1,800 migrants were rescued off the Libyan coast on Tuesday, the Italian coastguard announced, adding that similar operations were underway around 15 other overloaded vessels. The latest efforts came a day after more than 6,000 migrants were saved while making a perilous Mediterranean crossing. The 1,800 migrants were rescued from 16 crammed boats.
