Anti-IS forces retake downtown area in Libya's Sirte

Forces loyal to Libya's UN-backed Government of National Accord break up a wall as they fight Islamic State jihadists holed up in a residential district of Sirte on August 14, 2016Libyan pro-government forces advanced Tuesday against last pockets of resistance by fighters of the Islamic State jihadist group in the coastal city of Sirte. Backed by tanks and mortar fire, pro-government forces seized “District Two” of central Sirte, military officials said. “District Two has been liberated,” Reda Issa, a spokesman for the pro-government forces, told AFP.
