Donors pledge over $600 million for South Sudan

It is significant and it will save lives,” said Norwegian Foreign Minister Boerge Brende at the close of the conference. The sum raised in the meeting — described as the “last chance to prevent famine” by the United Nations — was in addition to $536 million (391 million euros) already pledged, yet remained $660 million short of the $1.8 billion the United Nations says the country needs.
