Incumbent Ouattara calls for 'reconciliation' ahead of ICoast vote

Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara arrives in Daloa, on September 27, 2015 as part of his campaign ahead of the presidential election on October 25, 2015Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara issued a “message of national reconciliation” during a visit to a stronghold of his ousted predecessor Laurent Gbagbo, less than a month before the country’s presidential elections. Ouattara is the favourite to win the October 25 vote, seen as crucial to restoring stability in the country after post-poll violence in 2010 and 2011 left more than 3,000 people dead, unrest which was triggered by Gbagbo’s refusal to step down and acknowledge Ouattara’s victory at the ballot box. Gbagbo is awaiting trial for war crimes at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
