Netanyahu: Al-Aqsa surveillance cameras in 'Israel's interest'

Palestinian men walk past the Dome of the Rock in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem on October 23, 2015Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that an agreement to put 24-hour security cameras around Jerusalem’s sensitive Al-Aqsa mosque compound was in Israel’s interest. Israel has been accused of seeking to change longstanding rules that govern the holy site which is revered in both Islam and Judaism, and which is a key source of tensions between Israelis and Palestinians. Tensions raised over clashes at the mosque compound, known as Temple Mount to Jews, have spiralled into a wave of daily knife attacks and shootings on Israelis as well as deadly protests.
