Niger opposition leader Oumarou named presidential candidate

Opposition leader and former prime minister Seyni Oumarou , pictured November 1, 2015 at a rally in the Niger capital of Niamey, was named November 29 as his MNSD party's presidential candidate in elections set for early 2016Opposition leader Seyni Oumarou was named as his party’s official candidate for the Niger presidential elections slated for early 2016, the National Movement for the Development of Society (MNSD) party said Sunday. Issoufou Tamboura of the MNSD told AFP that Oumarou was named as the candidate during a large ceremony on Saturday, with “thousands” in attendance. Declared candidates to date for the upcoming vote are incumbent President Mahamadou Issoufou, former planning minister Amadou Boubacar Cisse, former agriculture minister Abdou Labo, former premier Hama Amadou, and Kassoum Moctar.
