Rain washes out one-off Ireland-England ODI

England’s debutant captain James Taylor won the toss and had no hesitation in asking their hosts to bat first in overcast conditions. Two of them, Mark Wood and David Willey, took a wicket each as Ireland slumped to 56 for four when the rain arrived. Paul Stirling was the first batsman dismissed, too slow to react to William Porterfield’s call for a quick single and wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow’s direct hit left the Middlesex batsman well short.
