Turkish army says 104 putschists killed in coup attempt

Turkish solders stand guard at Taksim Square as people protest against the military coup in Istanbul, on July 16, 2016A total of 104 coup plotters were killed after a bid to bring down the Turkish government, the acting army chief said on Saturday. “The coup attempt has been foiled,” General Umit Dundar said on television, adding that 90 people — including 41 police and 47 civilians — “fell martyrs.” The remaining two were military officers. Dundar said coup attempt “was rejected by chain of command immediately”.
