UN envoy to Yemen says 'optimistic' about peace deal

UN Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed speaks during a press conference at the information ministry in Kuwait City on May 15, 2016The UN special envoy to Yemen said Sunday he is optimistic about achieving a peaceful settlement in the war-torn country, but admitted “difficult matters” remain unresolved. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said some progress had been achieved in the talks which began on April 21. There has been mounting international pressure to end the Yemen conflict, which the United Nations estimates has killed more than 6,400 people and displaced 2.8 million since March last year.
