US envoy urges end to truckers strike roiling Haiti

US Ambassador, Pamela White speaks at a press conference at the US Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on August 27, 2015Port-au-Prince (AFP) – The outgoing US ambassador to Haiti called Thursday for an end to a debilitating truckers’ strike, saying it had triggered an economic crisis in the impoverished Caribbean nation. “Washington is concerned by this — it’s really an economic crisis,” Ambassador Pamela White told reporters at the US embassy in Port-au-Prince during the final news conference of her tenure. White made particular mention of the Caracol Industrial Park in northern Haiti, which opened in October 2012 in the presence of then-secretary of state Hillary Clinton and her husband Bill.
