US: EU should be ready to 'do their part' in Greek deal

An anti-austerity protester holds a Greek flag in AthensUS Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said Monday that European leaders need to try hard to make a debt deal work if Greece presents credible proposals to it official creditors. Speaking by phone with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Lew “underscored the need for Greece to present credible proposals that provide the basis for reaching an agreement as quickly as possible,” the Treasury said. Lew spoke with Tsipras Monday morning about the tense negotiations between Athens and its creditors, the European Union, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, over releasing 7.2 billion euros ($8.2 billion) in bailout funds to the cash-strapped country.
